“Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
The ability to find joy in life really is an incredible strength. The older I get, the more I realize that people who can laugh and find joy in the everyday moments of life will probably live a lot longer than those of us who push ourselves too hard and stress over the small stuff. Sometimes we are just way too critical of ourselves and worry over things that are beyond our control. But if we can learn to laugh a little more and focus on the positive things, we’ll get stronger and experience more joy.
- “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.” (Proverbs 15:30)
- “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” (Psalm 126:3)
When we have one of those days when nothing seems to go right and we feel beat down, remember God is always by our side and wants us to turn to Him for help…and sometimes He sends help in the form of Christian friends. I have a friend who likes to say “this too shall pass.” I admire that she can look at a situation that seems bleak and hopeless, and turn that circumstance into a calm, joyful day. Having Christian friends is a gift from God and you should surround yourself with them as often as you can.
- “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
- Jesus said, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” (John 16:24)
