“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:29-31)
These are very comforting words and one of my favorite Bible passages! When I meditate on it, I can actually feel God lifting me up and repairing my weary bones and at times, my broken heart. As a child, I would usually run to my daddy when I needed help. Even as a teenager and into my young adult years, I still turned to him quite often to lift me up when I was feeling down. He was a strong man and worked hard to provide for his family, but he also had a very tender heart, which always made me feel safe and loved. So, when Acute Leukemia took his life in 2005, I was devastated! I’m very thankful God blessed me with an earthly, Christian father to teach me and protect me while I was growing up; and I believe God used my daddy to show me (and my sisters) a little glimpse of how awesome our Heavenly Father is. Although I still miss my daddy, I’ve learned how to turn my grief into praise. I’ve also learned that hope and strength come from the Lord, not from friends and family (although He sometimes uses them to encourage us). I pray that God will continue to teach me how to turn sorrow into joy, as I seek to do His will and put my hope in Him.
Here are more Bible verses that God used to speak to me today, but the Bible is filled with lots more. I encourage you to read your Bible daily and ask God to show you how to restore your strength and be a blessing to those around you!
- “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15: 5-6)
- “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” (Psalms 34: 18-19)
- “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.” (2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17)
